PERSON STATS

  MCGLEISH, Scott
Born In Barnet On 10/02/1974  England
Joined On 30/09/1997 Player Left: 12/01/2001

An absolute hero to many Barnet fans of the age I am, who were anywhere between the ages of about 8-14 when Scott played for Barnet.

One of the nicest blokes ever and a very good striker too, as it happens. After playing for a number of clubs having been discovered by Charlton when playing for Edgware Town in the mid-90s, it was his arrival at Underhill in 1997 that saw the launch of Scott McGleishs career, arguably.

He served four years at Underhill and became a real crowd favourite for his goal scoring exploits and exuberant back flips when celebrating. His personality was also what made him so loved by the Barnet faithful, always sparing the time to sign youngsters programmes and what have you, a great ambassador for the club.

It was a sad day when he left not long after Tony Cottees arrival in the 2000/01 season. Many blamed Cottee for this, but the whole story is quite an interesting one to say the least. Sadly, after the circumstances he left, its safe to say Scotty will never return to Underhill for a swansong year, or anything like that.

Many wondered how much of a success he would be post-Barnet, especially in the league above having signed for Colchester United. He had a very successful three years at Layer Road, before then enjoying another prosperous three year stint at Northampton Town. From here he went to Wycombe for two years, briefly returning to Northampton on loan, before leaving them at the end of the 2009 season. He signed for Leyton Orient, one of his first clubs and despite his advancing years enjoyed two prolific seasons in League One for them, before being one of a number of players released at the end of the 2010/11 season.

At the start of the 2011/12 season, at the age of 38 years old Scott signed a one year deal with highly fancied Bristol Rovers in League Two. No doubt hell score his standard couple of goals against Barnet again this season. As usual too, I will normally clap them. Absolute legend.

I LOVE YOU SCOTTY!
